Homemade Healthy Avocado Salad Dressing (So Easy!)

If you’ve been searching for a healthy homemade salad dressing that actually tastes amazing—this creamy avocado salad dressing is it. Made with whole, nourishing ingredients like avocado, fresh herbs, lime juice, and sunflower seeds, it’s dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, and so simple to make at home.

I first made this dressing during my 21-Day Purification Detox Cleanse, and I fell in love. I was following a recipe from Pinch of Yum but had to tweak a few things to fit my cleanse—and when I tell you this is the most flavorful salad dressing I’ve ever tasted, I am not lying! I was shocked at how good it turned out. (You can even see my reaction in the YouTube video I made—just no judging me for dropping the lime on the floor and still using it. 😂)

What Is Avocado Salad Dressing?

Avocado salad dressing is a creamy, nutrient-dense dressing made with ripe avocados as the base. Unlike store-bought ranch or Caesar, this version is made without dairy, added sugars, or processed oils—yet still delivers that rich, tangy flavor we all crave.

Thanks to the avocado and sunflower seeds, you get healthy fats, fiber, and plant-based creaminess in every bite. The lime juice and fresh herbs add a zesty, refreshing finish—kind of like guacamole in dressing form. If you’re anything like me and are totally obsessed with guac, go ahead and add this to your must-make list now… YUM.

How to Make This Homemade Avocado Dressing

This recipe comes together in just a few minutes with a high-speed blender or food processor. Toss everything in, blend, and boom—you’ve got a delicious, creamy, plant-powered dressing.

What You’ll Need:

  • A blender or food processor
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • A citrus juicer (optional but handy)
  • A jar or airtight container for storage

Tips for Perfect Consistency:

  • For a thinner dressing that’s easy to drizzle on salads, add a little extra water.
  • Want a thicker version to use as a dip or spread? Use less water and blend until smooth.

Storage Tips:

Store your avocado dressing in the fridge in an airtight container or jar. It’ll keep for 3–5 days. The lime juice helps preserve the green color, but it might brown slightly after two days—that’s totally normal and doesn’t affect the flavor. You can always stir or re-blend with a splash of lime juice to freshen it up.

This recipe makes about 4 cups, and I was able to use it for six meals!

Avocado Salad Dressing FAQ

How long does homemade avocado dressing last in the fridge?

Typically 3–5 days in a tightly sealed container. The lime juice helps it stay green, but you may need to stir or re-blend after a couple of days.

Can I freeze avocado salad dressing?

Freezing isn’t recommended due to the oil. Naturally ingredients will separate —the texture changes and gets chunky and thick and doesn’t blend well after being frozen.

Is this avocado dressing vegan?

Yes! It’s made with 100% plant-based ingredients—no dairy or animal products.

Is this recipe gluten-free?

Absolutely. All ingredients are naturally gluten-free.

How do I keep the avocado from browning?

Use fresh lime juice and store the dressing in an airtight container. You can press a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface for extra protection.

Can I make this without a blender?

Because of the sunflower seeds, a high-speed blender or food processor is best. A hand blender may work if your seeds are pre-soaked, but it won’t be as smooth.
