Pilates is a system of low-impact exercises designed to move your body from the core out – improving upon strength, endurance, stability and flexibility. This system of movement was devised by Joseph Pilates, in which his original work became known as “Contrology.” Pilates originated with classical exercises performed on the floor, known as “mat work”. Beginning on the floor in a supine position relieves pressure on the joints and strains on the heart, and this allows for safe movement from the start. Mat work exercises are the foundation of Pilates and are an integral part of all Pilates programming. They are incredibly challenging due to the fact that they un-assisted and require complete control.

This was a great read, love the section about how it’s popularity should lead you to train with a certified instructor!
Thank you for your comment, Risa! Yes! It is not only important to train with a certified instructor for correct exercises, movements, and professional Pilates routine for your personal situation or injury, but for health & safety aspects as well.

I have never tried Pilates because I am not flexible. I think I should try it.
Hi Wendy! Absolutely! I agree, I think you should give Pilates a try also. Pilates balances the body and actually INCREASES flexibility! Modifications can be done to tailor the movements and exercises to meet you at your level when you first start out. This will help you to gradually increase flexibility and to reach your goals at a pace that best suits you. Flexibility will increase naturally with regular practice of Pilates. Please reach out to me, I would love to help you get started on your Pilates journey!
I love Pilates! I live in Hungáry, There is a Pilates studio. I love it very mutch.

So great there’s another impactful option that works, while being more gentle on my knees. I’m only just getting started , and I wish I’d started years ago, would saved my knees.
Oh, do I feel you, Charity! Prior to my experience in the health & fitness world, I was a Sales Manager and Buyer. Working in an office incorporated unhealthy habits into my life, and I began dealing with so much knee and back pain at the age of 23! Pilates has changed my life and helped eliminate so much of the back and knee pain I was dealing with. I love to help those dealing with pain, like I was, feel better and find a way to move their bodies that feels good! I am so glad that you have now started your Pilates journey to help with the knee pain you are experiencing – it only gets better from here!

I have not done pilates and this would be a great way to start it.
I did pilates religiously every week 4 years ago until my fibromyalgia got the best of me, I’m trying to get back in the groove. I have good days and bad days but I’m trying my best.
Hi Lisa, flare ups can be tough! Keep doing your best, especially on your good days.
Pilates is so great!
As I get older I’m looking for something that works my core in a gentler way than many aerobic exercises require. I may have found the answer in Pilates.

Good summary. Definitely need guidance for doing it right. Still learning stuff after many years.
I love all the sessions and products!
my new obsession!
Pilates is one of those things that I’ve been telling myself for many years I “should” be doing. But at this point in my life after being at home full time for the past year due to the pandemic I am the most out of shape I’ve been in my entire life. I’ve always thought of Pilates as something I need to be in moderately good shape to attempt, otherwise it will just be miserable. But reading about all the benefits and having the option of doing sessions in the privacy of my own home – with no need to feel embarrassed if I can’t do a whole lot in the beginning – makes me excited to finally give it a try!
I love pilates but have not done it since the studio near me relocated. I would love to introduce it to my daughter. We have been clearing out an area in our home to make room. I can not wait for her to join me and us start taking zoom classes!
Love pilates its really fun I attend a fitness dance classes. Pilates is really interesting and really good to learn and good exercise.
Interesting read!
I have been wanting to do pilates for a while now but never really had the motivation. Now after reading the blog, I feel like I’m ready to go. Thank you!

Wish I would have started Pilates earlier, I’m always playing catch up!
I like that it’s low impact, important for those of us with older joints.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Pilates. My mom and I used to do a Pilates workout on DVD every night together when I was younger. Good times…
Pilates has changed my exercise regime for the best
Pilates has changed my life!
I used to hate any type of exercise but pilates has really give me a massive confidence boost!
I can’t wait to see what this year brings
I am new to pilates and find myself absolutely in love. As a stay at home mom of three little ones all 5 and under,I never have anytime for myself. This gives me “mommy time” and the ability to work on my body and self.
I do Pilates for 10 years now, love the way I feel since I´ve started doing it. Love this website.
I love Pilates
This looks awesome!
I like that you pointed out that private pilates could be modified for beginners and experts depending on the unique needs of our bodies. Since I have an issue with my right knee, I hope that the professional trainer that I will find will create a routine for me that will not affect that part of my leg. I just want to finally lose weight without that much impact on my knees, because I don’t want to get injured.
