Why I Tried the 21-Day Detox Again

If you’re like me—a busy mom juggling everything—sometimes your body screams for a reset. That’s why I’ve always loved doing a 21-day detox. I’ve done the Standard Process 21-Day Purification Program multiple times in the past and try to make it a habit once (if not twice) a year.

However, life has been a little different lately. After a four-year break due to pregnancy and postpartum, I finally returned to this 21-day reset when my kids were 2 and 4 years old and I was completely done breastfeeding. To be totally transparent, I was unhinged at the time (24 months postpartum). I was on anxiety medication, running on 200–400 mg of caffeine a day, and surviving on energy drinks and snacks between chasing two toddlers. I knew I needed a serious reset.

The 21-day detox results were life-changing. I lost 10 pounds, ditched energy drinks completely, cut my caffeine intake to 80–150 mg a day, and—most importantly—was able to get off my anxiety medication. After seeing such incredible results, I knew I wanted to document every step this time around and share it with you!

In this blog, I’ll take you through my week-by-week 21-day cleanse journey, what I ate, the supplements I took, and my overall results. I’ll also include before and after photos so you can see the transformation for yourself!

I tried a 21-day detox—here’s what happened!

Week 1: The Detox Begins

Having done this 21-day cleanse before, I knew that weaning off caffeine was essential. The first time I did it, I went cold turkey, which led to brutal headaches. This time, I cut back gradually, which helped, but I still felt sluggish and fatigued throughout the first week. My body was adjusting, and energy was low, but I noticed some encouraging changes early on.

I felt lighter, my joints were less stiff, and my body moved better overall. One downside? Excess gas that made me feel bloated and uncomfortable at times. However, my digestion improved, and bowel movements became more regular by the end of the week.

What I Ate

  • 2–3 Smoothies daily with SP Complete® vanilla or chocolate
  • Lots of frozen and steamed veggies
  • Sweet potatoes were my go-to for carbs and to help curb my sweet tooth

Week 2: Gaining Momentum

By Week 2, things started to shift. My sugar cravings completely disappeared, and I felt more energized. By Day 11, we were counting down the minutes until we could add protein back into our meals. My husband cooked a steak for breakfast that morning, and it was absolutely delicious!

Protein made meals much more satisfying. I ate lots of salads with grilled chicken and salmon, and we made an amazing quinoa salad that became a staple. The extra carbs helped keep me full longer, so some days I only needed one shake instead of two.

We also stuck to the program during an adults-only weekend getaway to a tiny cabin in the middle of nowhere, Wisconsin. There was only one restaurant with non-deep-fried options, so we went there both nights and ordered the exact same thing. I brought food for breakfast and lunch and relied on shakes for snacks to stay on track.

Digestively, things started to balance out. The gas that was prevalent in Week 1 became less frequent and not as constant, especially after switching from SP Cleanse® to SP Green Food® on Day 8.

Week 3: Feeling Amazing (But Also Ready to Be Done)

By Week 3, I felt strong, energized, and lighter—but I was also so ready to be done. Around Day 17, the food started to feel repetitive. I was craving eggs, and meal prep was starting to feel exhausting.

Multiple times, I told my husband I just wanted to quit, but the results kept me going. I had lost 7 pounds, my knee pain was gone, and my energy was through the roof. That was all the motivation I needed to finish strong.

  • Knee pain disappeared (the main reason I do this cleanse, since I regularly struggle with joint pain)

Life After the Detox: Finding Balance

Once the cleanse was over, we wasted no time indulging in coffee, eggs, nuts, cheese, and beef sticks. I’ve continued to stay away from gluten, knowing it’s a major trigger for my joint pain and inflammation.

We also treated ourselves to dessert, but surprisingly, sugar cravings didn’t come back. Our focus now is on eating more protein and maintaining the healthy habits we built during the detox.
