Hey Guys!

Happy October and Halloween month! We just released NEW online Pilates and yoga workout classes for October and we can’t wait for you to check them out below!

Time sure is flying. Everyone says this with littles. I don’t think I truly understood how fast it goes until I had Nash and I am able to witness it for a second time! How have we now had our last swim of the season and are already thinking about Halloween costumes?

I am a big fan of the “family themed costumes”, but I got nothin’ this year! I knew exactly what I wanted my family to dress up as last year, many months before Halloween, but this year I have no idea what we should do. If you have any ideas for my family of 4, please leave a comment. I am open to anything at this point! (P.S. I hate being scared, so scary Halloween movies and costumes are not my thing!)

My family and I have been very busy trying to get outside to enjoy the fall weather as much as possible before it is time to hunker down inside for the winter. Recently, we visited the Twin Cities Maze and Bobbi had a blast in the corn pit and ran her way through all the inflatable obstacle courses and slides. We also visited Minnetonka Orchards and enjoyed the farm animals, haystack ride, and of course couldn’t pass up an apple donut and apple picking! Nash is quite the trooper and comes along for the ride and eventually passes out on me in the baby carrier.

With all the fall time fun comes about a big transition and change. I did have a bit of a tough time adjusting to all this change this year. I was experiencing some delayed postpartum anxiety, and feelings of complete overwhelm and chaos for a couple weeks. Although my kids are not in school, I think the shift of season, temperature change, and overall schedule shift for everyone around me contributed to my wellbeing. I was unable to focus, hold a conversation, and manage my emotions. I found myself losing my shit over nothing, crying to my husband saying, “something isn’t right”, and I was incredibly short fused. One night, I turned on a movie in bed immediately after putting the kids to bed and I cried for over an hour and just let it all out. Why is it that crying it out always seems to help? It feels good to release those bottled up emotions and no longer hold them in!

In order for me to get back to feeling organized, focused, and back to my “type A” self, I had to pull back from social media, set boundaries of specifically not posting on weekends, and truly being in 100% mom mode. I often utilized the “do not disturb” setting on my phone in order to allow myself to feel like I didn’t need to respond to messages immediately, which also helped me focus on just being present. I also stopped listening to podcasts on my walks because this was just bringing in more noise, causing me more overwhelm, and putting more things on to my to-do list. I would also leave my phone at home and use the walk as a meditative space to breathe, notice the beauty of trees and sunshine, and check in with all my senses. Doing this makes walks dual purpose – exercise and relaxation!

During this time, I was also dealing with some chronic pain that has come to the surface after breastfeeding and pumping now for 6 months. I had underlying neck, upper back, and shoulder pain, and with overuse (nursing & baby carrying) it finally flared up and said enough is enough. It was time to do something, so I have been getting Acupuncture, cupping, and massage at AcuHaus in Long Lake, Minnesota, seeing Dr. Jesse at Chiro For Moms, as well as working on specific Pilates exercises to strengthen and stretch the upper back and neck. With the consistency of weekly appointments and multiple workouts a week, I am happy to have some relief. But, it is always going to be a work in progress as long as I’m nursing.

Because of this personal pain I am experiencing, it inspired one of my classes for the PILATESBODY On-Demand App’s October workout class release – Check out my workout class “Pilates for Neck and Upper Back Pain”! A preview of each class that launched today is below. Ready to check them out?
