Pause. Breathe In. Breathe Out. How are you?

I don’t know about you, but for me, January and February are my slowest months of the year. Both personally and professionally. I really appreciate this, especially after the hustle and bustle of the busy holiday season. I need a “slow down” period to gather, and really tune into, myself.

This extra time in the middle of Minnesota’s winter allows me to define how I really want this new year to play out and how I want to show up for the next 12 months. Again, both professionally as a certified Pilates instructor, as a mom to two, and a wife.

Also, January is usually the month that our health takes a toll. My entire family has been struggling with on-again, off again illnesses all month long. I was bed ridden with a fever for 48 hours. It was torture! Looking back on how I have navigated illness in the past compared to now is completely different. I’ve been working on shifting my mindset around the negatives, which are generally the things I cannot control. For example, the bitter winter weather, illnesses, traffic.

The shift in mindset that I have been implementing for myself lately has been simply flipping the negative into a positive. For instance, my previous mindset around weather: “It’s so cold, I’m stuck inside, I can’t do anything, this sucks.” Now, I look outside, pause, and take a moment to tell myself: “Wow, look at how beautiful it is outside. I’m going to bundle up and get some fresh air today. It’ll be good for my soul.” Just this simple flip of turning a negative into a positive has completely shifted my attitude, energy, and inspiration. I encourage you to try this for one month and see how your perspective on things that would normally bring you down changes.

Mindset work is heavy, and takes much concentration and internal motivation. I see this first hand when I work with my clients in the PILATESBODY by Kayla studio. If a client comes in stressed or overwhelmed, their session is typically all over the place. That client has a hard time concentrating and feeling the flow of the movements.

I also see it with motivation. Finding self-motivation to move our bodies daily on our own is not always an easy feat. There are so many outside influences that pop into one’s mind when it is time to “hit play” in their living room on that Pilates YouTube workout or Pilates on-demand class. I can think of at least 10 distractors or things that seem more important than moving my body right now as I’m typing this up! Because of this, subscription workout services like PILATESBODY On-Demand are inexpensive and convenient, but if you have an unfocused mindset, it may seem hard to commit to, or even know where to begin with such an invaluable workout tool and technology. This is why we have created monthly workout calendars for you to jump right in and easily follow along with!

We are so excited to introduce to you our newest guest instructor on the PILATESBODY On-Demand App, Sanela Glavan! Sanela is a human movement specialist and a Pilates teacher with more than 17 years of experience! She is currently based in Qatar where she works with many VVIP clients and members of the Royal family. Sanela recently completed her Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist Certification. When she is not busy teaching or studying, Sanela likes to travel and learn about different cultures. Let’s get to know Sanela!

What is something most people don’t know about you?
“Most people don’t know that I have really long hair and that I love math.”

What is your favorite food?
“I am not a big food fan, but I like Croatian traditional food (because I am from Croatia, Europe).”

Where can we find you on a Saturday night?
“On a Saturday night you can find me in a reverse Plank in bed 😂 (I am a morning person).”

Without further ado, here are your PILATESBODY On-Demand Workout Calendars for February 2023!

The backbone of PILATESBODY is that we want to help you lead a healthy lifestyle. A big part in achieving a healthy lifestyle starts with establishing new routines for yourself in order to set yourself up to be successful. We want to make sure you get in your daily movement and exercise (by making it a routine) to help you keep a healthy body and mind, so we have created these workout calendars to make getting in your workouts easier! We hope you enjoy them and get much benefit from them.

Here’s what you can expect each day of the February Workout Calendar. Are you ready?!

February Daily Workout Focuses

SUNDAY: Recovery/Rest Day
MONDAY: Total Body
TUESDAY: Intention*
WEDNESDAY: Recovery/Rest Day or Workout of Choice
THURSDAY: Lower Body
FRIDAY: Core
SATURDAY: Recovery/Rest Day
* Tuesday is your intention focused day. This means the workouts have a specific goal in mind (i.e. sleep, booty, pelvic floor, strength, etc.)

How to Follow the Pilates Workout Calendars

  • Choose either calendar to download: the Pilates workout calendar or the pregnancy-safe Prenatal Pilates and yoga workout calendar.
  • Subscribe to the PILATESBODY On-Demand App to find all of the workout videos you need for this month’s calendar!
  • The calendars are programmed for 4 workouts and 3 recovery/rest days per week. This sets you up for success to complete all 4 workouts, as well as fitting in any additional exercise you personally may do on top of Pilates.
  • Do each video once and check it off as you go.
  • Each day, the workout classes average about 30-minutes and have a specific focus in mind depending on the day of the week.
  • On the PBOD App, you can search all these classes in the search bar, and click the heart icon to “favorite” each workout for easy access.
  • New workout calendars will be released every month and can be easily downloaded right here on the blog.

The workout calendars will change each month to keep your workouts fresh and exciting. Be sure to check our blog every month to download your workout calendar, or sign up for our email newsletter to automatically receive the free calendar in your inbox on the 1st of every month!

After you download your free PILATESBODY On-Demand workout calendar, you can save it to your phone for easy accessibility. Or, if you need the extra accountability like I do, you can print it out to hang on your refrigerator or put in your daily planner to enjoy crossing off your workouts once you complete them.

Mat Pilates for Stiff Backs Class

Duration: 40-minute Workout

Kayla starts this class with small, precise movements helping your tight back get completely loosened up. The workout progresses into more advanced exercises where you’ll articulate the spine in flexion, extension, rotation, and of course work your deep core muscles. Transform your stiff back into a mobile and resilient back with this Mat Pilates workout. This is a great class to lubricate your joints so that you can safely access a greater range of motion with more freedom.

Prenatal Yoga for Hips and Lower Back Class

Duration: 21-minute Workout

This Prenatal Yoga for Hips and Lower Back class uses stretches to target areas that tend to get tight during pregnancy and cause pain within the hips and lower back. It is very common during pregnancy to experience hip and lower back pain. This is a quick class to return to as often as you would like, as it is a good one to start your day with to help bring a little bit of movement into the body to warm up, or to stretch out the body and release tension to get yourself ready for bed.

Total Body Chair Pilates Class

Duration: 22-minute Workout

This is a gentle, full-body, standing Pilates workout with a chair and is suitable to everyone (pre/postnatal). The focus during this class is moving your body intentionally with a strong awareness on breathing. Sanela starts with a standing warm up, then moves to the chair for some lower body movements and supported plank work.

TRX Pilates Intermediate Abs Class

Duration: 25-minute Workout

In this 25-minute TRX Pilates abs workout, Kayla takes her favorite mat Pilates exercises and incorporates them with the TRX suspension straps. Combing the two forms makes for a really great core workout! TRX Pilates focuses on developing strength and stability in the core and shoulders as you finish with a plank series. This class is challenging and progressive.

Prenatal Yoga for Beginners Class

In this Prenatal Yoga for Beginners class, we will break down a few beginner yoga poses that will be beneficial for you to do at any point during your pregnancy. This class is designed to help you break down these poses to see how they feel in your body, and maybe modify them to your body and how you are at this stage in your pregnancy today. Be sure to use all the props to support you in your practice.
