Hey Pilates Queens!

June is one of my favorite months of the year. I feel this ease of transition into summer with the Summer Solstice occurring on June 21st. The sun makes its way around the northernmost part of the sky, marking it the longest day of the year. An official sign that summer is here! 

The Summer Solstice represents the next step of this divine rhythm. Always occurring at the start of the Cancer Sun Season, the Summer Solstice reminds us to turn inward and find the nourishment needed to grow and evolve. It is a time to pause and wait for the energy planted in the spring to reach full bloom – according to Spiritual Gangster.

It’s so interesting how the Solstice is a reminder to pause and find growth within and just be, but usually we do the complete opposite. School is out, schedules go crazy, and we rev our engines to 110% and power through the next 3 months on overdrive.

Let’s be reminded of the spiritual connection of traveling from darkness to light and bring that with our bodies and mind through the month of June. I want to find time to nurture myself and others this June, and it was intentional to bring my Pilates practice and focus back to the basics and the foundation to allow those seeds that we initially planted to grow again.

Meaning, it is important to come back to the beginner work in Pilates because it is a good reminder for ourselves that movement is initiated from the core out. Sometimes we can get so caught up in the movement and pushing our bodies to their limits that we forget how and why we started Pilates in the first place.

We have created these workout calendars just for you to make fitting your workouts into your daily life easier! How to Follow the Pilates Workout Calendars

  • Choose either calendar to download: the Pilates workout calendar or the pregnancy-safe Prenatal Pilates and yoga workout calendar.
  • Subscribe to the PILATESBODY On-Demand App to find all of the workout videos you need for this month’s calendar!
  • The calendars are programmed for 4 workouts and 3 recovery/rest days per week. This sets you up for success to complete all 4 workouts, as well as fitting in any additional exercise you personally may do on top of Pilates.
  • Do each video once and check it off as you go.
  • Each day, the workout classes average about 30-minutes and have a specific focus in mind depending on the day of the week.
  • On the PBOD App, you can search all these classes in the search bar, and click the heart icon to “favorite” each workout for easy access.
  • New workout calendars will be released every month and can be easily downloaded right here on the blog.

Postnatal Yoga Core and Pelvic Floor Class

If you find yourself low in energy during your pregnancy, this flow is for you. This prenatal yoga class will help you find movement in your body that will leave you feeling awake and energized.

This yoga sequence will also help prepare your body for labor and postpartum.

How to Do the Pilates Single Leg Stretch Exercise Tutorial

Duration: 2-minute Tutorial

Equipment: Exercise Mat

Goal: The Pilates One Leg Stretch Exercise strengthens and builds endurance in the abdominals, and promotes centering alignment.

Instructions:
• Lie on your back, head curled up and one knee to chest.
• Inhale as you pull your leg firmly to your chest, heel to buttocks, reaching opposite leg long.
• Exhale, change legs, and pull the other leg into your body.
• Repeat, switching legs, 6 – 8 times.

How to Do the Pilates Rolling Like a Ball Exercise Tutorial

Goal: The Pilates Rolling Back Exercise massages the spine, improves alignment, and increases circulation and promotes relaxation in the body.

Instructions:
• Tuck your knees into your chest, wrapping your hands around your shins/ankles.
• Inhale, pull your abdominals in and roll back to your shoulders. Head stays off the mat.
• Exhale, roll up and pause at the top.
• Repeat 5 – 6 times.

Goal: The Pilates One Leg Circle Exercise lengthens and tones the thighs, stretches and stimulates circulation to the lower body, and teaches pelvic stabilization.

Instructions:
• Lie on your back, one leg straight up to the ceiling and the other long on the mat.
• Inhale, cross the lifted leg over the body to the opposite shoulder.
• Exhale, circle around and up to center, toes in line with the nose.
• Do 5 repetitions in each direction.
